Wilton has a Mayor & Council form of Government. Wilton has 5 voting districts.  Council meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at the Community Center located at 260 Church St.  Council meeting starts at 7:00 P.M.

STATEMENTS OF CANDIDACY BEGINNING JULY 7, 2020

Municipal election laws state that candidates may begin to qualify after the mayor gives the notice of election. 


STATEMENT OF ECONOMIC INTERESTS

All candidates for municipal office are required to file a statement of economic interests with the State Ethics Commission SIMULTANEOUSLY with the date the candidate files for his or her qualifying papers.  If this is NOT done his or her name WILL NOT appear on the ballot. Act 2019-529 amended this code provision to provide that candidates now have up to 5 days after filing their qualifying papers to file their statement of economic interests. If a candidate fails to file a statement of economic interests, the law provides that their name shall NOT appear on the ballot. 


In order to be a qualified elector of the municipality,  person must have resided within the municipality for at least 30 days prior to the election.  Section 11-46-22, Code of Alabama 1975.


Additionally, all candidates must have been residents of the municipality for at least 90 days prior to the election and be qualified elector at the time of filing their statement of candidacy.  Section 11-46-35, Code of Alabama 1975


Final date to qualify- July 21, 2020

The clerk closes receipt of candidacy at 5:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday in July preceding the election. This is the final day on which a candidate may qualify to fun in the general municipal election in mayor-council cities and towns. Section 11-46-25, Code of Alabama 1975
